Telangana protests continue, bandh on Dec 30

Rallies, hunger strikes and demonstrations continued in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh today after the Joint Action Committee (JAC) intensified its agitation, mounting pressure on the Centre for a separate statehood. - TDP agrees to join JAC; Cong ministers in Delhi - Solution to Telangana only after wider consultations: Moily - JAC gives ultimatum to Centre on formation of Telangana - Problems in Andhra hits textile trade at Erode - Telangana remains tense - TDP MLAs from Telangana walk out of joint action committee The all-party JAC, including major parties like TDP and number of other outfits, had called for protest rallies across the region today and tomorrow followed by a bandh on December 30 to press for the Telangana issue. The JAC held a marathon meeting last night following which the decision to step up the protests was taken. Meanwhile, police foiled the indefinite hunger strikes being observed for the last five days by the students of Osmania University late last night and shifted some of them to hospital after their health showed sign of weakness. The Osmania University students called for massive students convention on January 3, 2010 in support of the Telangana statehood demand.
